Abilities and Permissions
May. 30th, 2022 01:57 pmSouta's abilities fall under two basic categories: conversing with plants and Elde's Key.
Plant Whisperer: Talking to plants is something that Souta has been able to do for most of his life in canon. He can understand them and have relatively complex conversations. Things that plants might talk about are their surroundings, the weather, people who pass by, or their condition if something is wrong. Some plants can shut him out if they don't want to talk, but even then he can usually get a sense for their emotions. If he boosts their mood, plants can have a more vibrant appearance after Souta talks to them.
Elde's Key: A highly sought after magical item, Elde's Key is one of two keys that can unlock the path between the two worlds. This extremely powerful item resides unseen inside of Souta, who was born into the role of key bearer.
For those who are unable to sense power, Elde's Key will usually be unnoticeable. Besides being hidden, its power is only unleashed when the holder experiences strong emotions. Protective feelings, despair, fear, and anger are known to trigger especially intense reactions. Perhaps this is partly why the Key seems to react more often when others are in danger rather than Souta himself. What the power does depends on the type of emotion and intensity.

Powers include:
- Glowing Aura - Souta glows. This glow is usually a white light, though negative emotions get a purple light instead. Holding hands with him at the time can cause your character to glow as well. It can have a soothing effect on others when caused by positive emotions.
- Energy Wave - Souta releases one or more visible pulses of energy. These can be harmless or include other stronger powers.
- Resonate with other Magical Items - Touching certain magic items will cause him to glow. Specific magic items might also absorb Souta temporarily, but only if they are specifically designed to sync with Elde's Key. Holding his hand can bring others along with him. (This will only happen with items from Phantavale.)
- Neutralize Magic - The Key stops magic around it, usually a defensive ability. It can stop an active spell on lower levels, damage magic items, or temporarily block people from performing magic entirely at high levels. While usually aimed at enemies, Souta has very little control over the exact affect it has.
- Energy Column - When emotions overwhelm Souta, it can release a powerful column of energy which can engulf others. Usually a darker power that comes from negative emotions, if others enter the column it will hurt. Prolonged exposure has potential to be lethal.
- Portals between Worlds - The Keys can create small portals between worlds (though Souta has neither the knowledge or experience to use this power). When the two Keys are combined into one, a large portal is created which can blur the boundaries between worlds. This is the 'true power' of Elde's Key and requires an extremely intense emotion to activate. This is the only time the Key is visible. (Note: This power is not available in Kaisou, sorry isekais.)
- Magic Battery - Less a power of the Key, but since it is so strong, a knowledgeable magic user can tap into its power to fuel their own spells.
